My Love For Stories Trumps All
I began enjoying stories before I could even read or write. By the age of two, I was using my limited language skills to weave fantasies in gibberish to anyone who would listen; by the age of five, I had advanced to narrating more sensible stories to my younger brother; by the age of ten, I was writing them.
I was an IT engineer by the time I was 22 and secured a PGDM in Marketing and Public Policy by the time I turned 25. When I started working full-time for the first time (in a B2B fintech firm), I opted to work in a client-facing role. I started out as an account manager and moved onto business development, working with customers and prospects day in and day out, trying to understand what happened in their lives and how my organization could resolve their headaches.
Through my interactions directly with customers, I understood that sales pitches and strategies are only as good as the person delivering them. To scale this and to do it consistently, an effective marketing strategy needs to be infused throughout the organization – from sales to marketing to product development to senior leadership – everyone needs to be communicating a constant narrative, at every touchpoint, every single time.
This is easier said than done.
So I took my learnings, moved to the marketing department within the same company, and began a new path – product marketing and content marketing. I was now at the back-end of supporting sales teams of the business unit across the globe. Suddenly, it wasn’t just about understanding what a prospect needed. It was about understanding that every new prospect needed something completely different from the last one, either because they lived in a different part of the world, or their client base was different, or that they simply were on a journey completely different from their competitors.
From this, I got my first impetus to distinguish my work through the technique of storytelling. After six years of my corporate stint, I moved out to start my independent work.
Since 2017, I have been working on marketing and communication challenges, building strategies, and crafting assets using organic content for companies and individuals from India, Australia, UK, USA, and UAE.
This journey continues to be extremely exciting every single day because no two clients are ever the same. So no two stories are ever the same. And because every story crafted, whether for use in a blog post or case study or a white paper, is different, it gives every single client a unique asset to leverage for fast-tracking their closure on deals and build a loyal community of followers and brand advocates, sustainably for the long-term.
That is my jackpot at the end of the rainbow.
